WHAT I DON'T DO
Willoak Tree Care is a small company focused on urban tree health and preservation. I do not provide Spray Treatments, Tree Removal, Pruning, or Stump Grinding. Fortunately, I am connected to a network of skilled Arborists in the Twin Cities area that do all of those things and more. If you need a referral I am happy to help.
TREE CARE CONSULTATION
A one hour consultation at your home to meet with you, assess tree health, and collect information needed to create a plan that addresses the problems at hand. For requests that involve only a single tree or smaller properties, I am able to provide a same day quote without a fee. Quotes prices expire one year from date provided.
For larger properties and more involved treatment plans I create a report that summarizes my visit, provides and estimate for services, and a map that identifies trees involved in the plan. A fee is charged for this report and can be applied toward services purchased within one year of date provided.
PROSPECTIVE HOME BUYER TREE ASSESSMENT
When purchasing a new home it is important to understand the risk, potential maintenance needs, and pest and disease issues of the trees located on the property. A report is provided to both the prospective buyer and the seller detailing the trees on site, tree health assessments, estimated potential costs associated of tree care needs.
This service requires written approval from the homeowner to allow me to access the property.
TREE SAMPLE COLLECTION
Most tree conditions can be assessed visually, but some pest and disease issues require sample collection and testing to confirm identification, such as Oak Wilt or Bur Oak Blight.
I collect samples by either using pole pruning tools or by climbing the tree and then brought to the University of Minnesota Plant Disease Clinic on the Saint Paul Campus and typically take 2-3 weeks for lab results.
Price includes Lab Fees, Sample Collection, and Same or Next Day Delivery.
TREE PEST PROTECTION
Many tree pests can be managed without harmful sprays that can drift to other plants, animals, and the surrounding environment. A basal trunk injection is the safest and most effective form of wood borer treatment. This application is effective for current infestations and keeps the tree protected for up to two years. Insects treated by this method include Emerald Ash Borer and Two-Lined Chestnut Borer.
Price is based on tree diameter measurement and product needed for treatment.
OAK WILT PROTECTION
Oak Wilt is a fatal fungal disease that is especially threatening our Red and Pin Oaks, but affects all Oaks in Minnesota. Most commonly found in Central and Eastern Minnesota, Oak Wilt impacts Oaks in our Urban and Rural Oaks the same.
Treatment requires early detection and preventative measures as the spread of Oak Wilt in dense Oak stands can be fast due to root grafting. Individual Oaks are also at risk from overland transmission of Oak Wilt via sap beetles that carry fungal spores. This is also why Arborists do not prune Oaks during the growing season.
A strong fungicide is injected at that root flare of the tree and the product is carried throughout the entire vascular system to the very top of the tree. Treatments last for up to two growing seasons.
DUTCH ELM DISEASE PROTECTION
Dutch Elm Disease sounds like one of the antiquated things your elder neighbor might remember from way back when, but sadly it is still infecting trees throughout the Twin Cities and suburbs. Every season I witness once healthy, mature trees that outlasted the Dutch Elm Disease epidemic of the 70's & 80's decline steeply and die from DED.
If your American Elm that has not been treated in a long time, it is still at risk!
Treatment is preventative and requires a healthy tree to protect properly. Treatment is very similar to Oak Wilt treatments and last for two to three growing seasons depending on tree health and disease pressure.
OTHER PEST & TREE HEALTH TREATMENTS
Micro Nutrient Injection: Compacted clay urban soils often trap nutrients leaving them unavailable for our trees. Trees that are showing mid to late summer yellowing, known as Chlorosis, are deficient in important nutrients such as Iron and Manganese. Without these nutrients, chlorophyll production is reduced leaving the tree weak and at risk of decline. Treatments lasts for up to two growing seasons.
Growth Regulator Applications: Growth Regulators are intended to assist mature trees that are in early decline from pest or site disturbance (construction/utility work) damage. The active ingredient is a hormone that signals a tree to slow down on tip and leaf growth and improve secondary and root growth. Treatments last for up to three growing seasons.
Insecticidal Soil Drench: Some softwood trees, such as Birch, are not ideal candidates for trunk injection due to their elevated risk of decay. Soil drenching is offered only in cases where there is not alternative treatment option and only where treatment will not affect pollinators.
